Interview with owner Peter O'Brien

Can you tell us a bit about your Gitcombe, its history and the team that runs it?

Fun fact, Gitcombe was once owned once by Max Factor – as in the make up!

Myself and my father now own the estate. I have worked in property “management” for all of my working life.

The estate is managed by Emma Banks who spent 28 years running high end hospitality at The Royal Ascot Racing Club.

What do you love most about Gitcombe?

Truly – in a world of its own. Come and find out for yourself.

What is your favourite part of the accommodations, or amenities you offer?

All of it, but the views are the best.

Who designed the interiors at Gitcombe? Tell us more about that.

The house and cottages are steeped in history.  We also have a  new accessible property for disabled access designed by Roderick James, the Gitcombe retreat.

What can guests expect when they stay at Gitcombe?

Tranquillity, luxury, serenity, cleanliness,

What do you enjoy most about hosting guests?

They are bowled over by Gitcombe.

What has been your biggest learning experience while running Gitcombe?

How easy it is to manage guests.  If you always deliver beyond their expectations and pre-empt any problems.

What is Gitcombe’s unique selling point that makes you stand out?

Customer service pre and post stay, and e-concierge service.

Can you tell us more about the e-concierge service?

When you book a stay with us you have exclusive access to The Devon Concierge Club – the South West’s premium holiday planning service.

Whether you are looking for activities to do, spa treatments, table bookings, private chefs, picnics, babysitting or dog walking services, we can arrange it all for you.

What else do your guests enjoy most about Gitcombe?

We have so much to offer. Pools, hot tub, tennis courts, play area, and sauna and steam room to name a few.

Outdoor facilities

What do you think are the top 3 reasons people come to stay at Gitcombe?

The quality of service we offer, our properties, and the facilities.

What does it mean to you when someone takes the time to leave a great review of Gitcombe?

It's great to get the acknowledgement of the hard work the whole team puts in. And it's great to know our guests have had a memorable holiday.

If you could choose three guests to come and stay at Gitcombe, who would they be and why?

Our target market is multi generations. We cater brilliantly for this, so families.  We want to provide family friendly holidays and luxury self catering holiday accommodation.

What is the number one destination on your holiday bucket list?

Italy.  I’m a foodie !

Conclusion

The award winning Gitcombe estate really does have so much to offer for you to have a wonderful holiday with your extended family.
