Corffe House and Holiday Cottages

Your doorway to North Devon.

Corffe House and Holiday Cottages bring together Georgian elegance and family-friendly comfort in the heart of North Devon. At the centre of the estate stands Corffe House, a nine-bedroom residence that combines period character with modern luxuries, including its own cinema room. Surrounding it are nine converted stable cottages, each with its own charm, offering space for groups of all sizes — from intimate escapes to gatherings of up to ten.
The estate is designed for relaxed, memorable stays. Guests have access to an indoor heated pool, a tennis court, and five acres of landscaped grounds with a play area and barbecue cabin. Whether it’s children playing outdoors, evenings gathered around the grill, or a quiet morning coffee in the gardens, Corffe makes it easy to balance activity with rest.
Set in the pretty village of Tawstock yet only a short drive from Barnstaple and North Devon’s dramatic beaches, Corffe is perfectly placed for both coast and countryside adventures. It’s a retreat made for family holidays, milestone celebrations, and time well spent together.

Plan Your Stay

At Corffe, you can dial your days up or down without ever compromising on experience. Stay put and settle into slow living, or head out and make the most of North Devon — everything’s within easy reach.

On site, the pace is yours to set. Swim in the indoor heated pool, sink into the hot tub, battle it out on the tennis court or let the kids take over the adventure play area. The grounds stretch across five acres, perfect for barefoot breakfasts on the lawn, woodland wanders, evening barbecues or simply disappearing with a book and a view.

When you’re ready to venture out, you don’t have to venture far. Tawstock village is just down the lane, and Barnstaple brings cafés, shops and markets within minutes. Keep going and the coastline takes over — sandy beaches, surf spots, cliff paths and more sea air than you can pack in a weekend.

Short break, celebration or week-long escape — Corffe gives you permission to do it your way: full throttle, feet up, or somewhere in between.

Rooms

Each place to stay at Corffe combines historic character with modern comfort, offering everything from intimate boltholes for two to a grand Georgian house for gatherings of twenty.

Corffe House - sleeps 18–22
Once the rectory to the 13th-century Church of St Peter, Corffe House is an 18th-century Grade II listed Georgian home with striking proportions and sweeping staircases. Today it pairs historic elegance with modern touches, including a private cinema room, making it ideal for family gatherings and milestone celebrations. With nine bedrooms and space for up to 22 guests, it’s a showpiece at the heart of the estate.

The Cottages - sleeps between 2–10
Set around a sunny courtyard, the nine cottages were created from the estate’s original stables and outbuildings. Each has been carefully refurbished to balance comfort and character, offering options for couples, families, and larger groups. Sleeping between two and ten guests, the cottages give flexibility for everything from cosy escapes to full-scale group holidays, all with access to the estate’s facilities.

Together, the house and cottages make Corffe a rare find — a place where history, space, and modern convenience meet in the heart of North Devon.

Activities

Set within five acres of beautiful grounds, Corffe is a place where there’s always something to enjoy. Guests can swim in the indoor heated pool, unwind in the hot tub, or gather for a friendly game of tennis on the all-weather court. Children can burn off energy in the adventure playground, while the open lawns and woodland walks offer space to slow down and explore at a gentler pace.

Thoughtful touches make longer stays easy, with ultra-fast WiFi, EV charging points, and a well-equipped laundry room on site. Evenings are made for gathering — whether around the barbecue cabin, at a picnic bench in the woods, or simply watching the sunset across the grounds.

At Corffe, days can be as lively or as laid-back as you choose. From family fun to quiet moments, there’s space here for every kind of holiday rhythm.

Location

Set just outside the pretty village of Tawstock and only a short drive from Barnstaple, Corffe is perfectly placed for exploring North Devon. The region is a haven for anyone who loves the outdoors, with a coastline that’s as dramatic as it is varied. Spend the day on the golden sands of Woolacombe, wander the vast dunes at Braunton Burrows, or take to the waves at one of the area’s renowned surf beaches. The South West Coast Path winds along rugged cliffs and hidden coves, while Exmoor National Park offers wide-open moorland and wooded valleys to explore.

Family days out come easily here. Build sandcastles, hunt for crabs in rock pools, or cycle the scenic Tarka Trail. Local attractions range from theme parks and zoos to sculpture trails and botanical gardens, giving plenty of choice whatever the weather.

And when it’s time to pause, North Devon’s food scene shines — from fish and chips by the sea to cream teas in village cafés. However you spend your days, the region blends adventure and relaxation in a way that keeps guests coming back year after year.
